Lockerbie Victims Will Never Rest
By Jane Jamison
Senate Democrats were breathing fire a few weeks ago, gnashing teeth and demanding a full Senate committee inquiry into whether British Petroleum had brokered a deal with Great Britain to spring the Lockerbie bomber from a Scottish prison last summer. 194 Americans died in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am #103, so there will always be U.S. focus on anything to do with the case.
In a classic case of “watch what you ask for,” affronted U.K. officials dropped a bombshell that they clearly have been holding back for awhile: That they had letters to show that President Obama and Hillary Clinton knew two weeks ahead of time that Abdel Baset al- Megrahi was going to be released….the question was whether he would be “traded” for other prisoners, or let go on “compassionate grounds” because he was supposedly dying of prostate cancer. The Brits said the Obama administration was not allowing them to release the letters proving that the President opted for the “compassionate” release for Al-Megrahi, instead of sending him to one of the scurvy-ridden Libyan prisons.
Game over.
Sen. Bob Menendez, (D-N.J.) says the hearing which was supposed to begin today, will instead be “postponed indefinitely.” Since the trail of treachery leads all the way to the President of the United States, well, there’s not going to be anyone under oath now or ever.
Menendez even had the chutzpah to try to make it sound like the Scots are refusing to cooperate.
A senator said Tuesday that he was postponing this week’s hearing on the release of the man convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland because of “stonewalling” by British and Scottish officials who declined to testify.
“They would prefer to sweep this under the rug.”
Of course, the Senate Foreign Relations committee has the power to subpoena anyone it wants to appear, but the “sheeple people” probably won’t grasp that. Menendez and crew were simply looking for another cheap way to “demonize” British Petroleum, it was never about getting to the “truth” of why Americans were so devastatingly betrayed by the Scottish court, BP and Libya.
What an astounding week of covering for Obama it is!
The felonious former governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevic, has taken an arrow for Barack Obama during his bribery and influence peddling trial in Illinois by refusing at the last minute to either testify or to call Obama or White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
There had been testimony and evidence produced to show that both the President and Rahm have perjured themselves by telling the FBI they had no contact and offered no inducements to Blago for the replacement for Obama’s vacated Illinois Senate seat. Those felonies will never see sunshine. Perhaps they can still be considered “high crimes and misdemeanors” for purposes of impeachment at some later date….say, after November. A fond hope.
But back to the Lockerbie bomber, al-Megrahi, who is kicking up his heels, chest-bumping Libyan strongman Muammar Khadafy, and getting away with murder.
Khadafy is flush with British Petroleum petrodollars, renovating the crumbling Tripoli downtown into a “smart city” and building a new airport. Libya’s economy is booming due to the bartering of a high-profile prisoner, whose crime was perpetrated by Khadafy himself. Think of it as a terrorism “stimulus package.”
Because of all this double-dealing and talking, the Americans who fell from the sky over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, oh so long ago, will never rest in their graves. Without dragging the documents out and putting the principals under oath before the Senate committee, this case is closed.
The Lockerbie victims’ family survivors will always be in that special hell of never having the psychic reward of bundling the killer off to a life in prison or a death sentence. Quite the opposite, as a matter of fact. The Americans who grieve Pan Am #103 will have their noses rubbed in the Scottish mud forever by Muammar Khadafy and their own president.
