Patrick Hughes, GOP conservative for U.S. Senate, Illinois
Update: January 30, 2010:
Mark Kirk has refused to debate Patrick Hughes during the course of the Republican primary campaign and has also ducked joint appearances. Kirk, who has voted in favor of partial birth abortion, gun control, cap-and trade tax (the largest federal tax increase in history) and gay marriage, is still well-funded by the GOP elite establishment in Chicago and still leading in the polls.
Mark Kirk’s facebook page has hundreds of negative comments and complaints from Illinois voters. The “fan” page for Kirk has now disabled the comment section so that nothing can be posted by the public.
Patrick Hughes’ Facebook page is booming with new endorsements and well wishers from all over the country.
Patrick Hughes is endorsed by radio talk show hosts Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham,and many pro-family, pro-life, tea party and gun rights groups. See full list of endorsements (HERE)

The latest Rasmussen poll shows there is a large number of Illinois voters still “undecided” and another sizable percentage committed to other candidates.

Hughes scored 22 percent with likely GOP voters in a survey sponsored by his own campaign, while Kirk scored 42 percent. Every other GOP candidate in the race had less than 5 percent support in the uninformed ballot poll, while 27 percent of survey respondents said they were undecided.
Don’t forget: Scott Brown was down 30 points in Massachusetts and campaigning out of his truck at one point.
Patrick was interviewed on the Dennis Miller national talk radio show today and was mentioned on Sean Hannity’s show. His other endorsements are below.

The U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama is now up for grabs. Illinois Republicans have a difficult choice in the primary February 2: Vote for a well-funded, well-connected, well-known Chicago congressman who calls himself “moderate” or choose a little-known political newcomer who channels the values of Ronald Reagan.
Illinois conservative Republicans are essentially being insulted by their own party’s effete elites. The crusty country-clubbers have decided that Congressman Mark Kirk is the anointed party candidate to run this fall. Last week, Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady pooh-poohed the Tea Party and 9/12 conservatives who oppose Kirk as a “fringe element,” not to be taken seriously and “not in touch” with the state of Illinois.
The problem with Congressman Mark Kirk is, he is not really a Republican and certainly not a conservative. Here is what Mark Kirk has supported in the U.S. House of Representatives:
–He was one of only 8 House Republicans to vote YES for the Waxman-Markey “cap-and-trade” bill, which could eventually be the largest tax increase in U.S. history.
–He voted AGAINST new oil drilling for energy independence and development in ANWR.
–Kirk’s campaign ads highlight his military service, but Kirk voted AGAINST the final surge in Iraq, a major turning point in the war.
–Kirk supports gun control legislation. He gets an F rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA), and an F-minus from the Gun Owners of America.
–Mark Kirk is pro-abortion. Most disturbingly for conservatives, he has voted AGAINST the ban on controversial partial birth abortions. He gets a 100% approval rating from Planned Parenthood and National Association for Abortion Rights and Action League (NARAL).
–Kirk voted AGAINST an amendment to define marriage as only between a man and woman.
–Kirk joined with left wing radicals in voting FOR hate crimes legislation.
The “true” conservative Republican in the Illinois Senate primary is Patrick Hughes.
The Hinsdale, Illinois attorney-turned-real estate developer and father of three is woefully underfunded and has not held political office before. Hughes is tapping into the Tea Party conservatives in his state and it is beginning to pay off.
Patrick Hughes is now endorsed by conservative radio hosts Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham, conservative blog RedState.com, the Illinois Right to Life Federation, Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly, former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, numerous family PACs, many central and southern Illinois tea party groups and corporate leaders such as Peter Huizenga.
Hughes says he is a “Ronald Reagan” conservative and his opponent is Nancy Pelosi “lite.” Hughes defined the important choice Illinois Republicans must make in a recent radio interview with Laura Ingraham.(here)
A Chicago Tribune/WGN poll this weekend shows Mark Kirk is preferred by 47 percent of likely Republican voters in the primary, but there are lots of “undecided” voters.
In January, 35 percent of Republican primary voters were still undecided in the contest, including nearly half of downstate voters and nearly 40 percent of those who say they are very conservative.
Erick Erickson of RedState.com says many Illinois conservatives feel disrespected that their party’s own leadership that would call them a “fringe element.”
Conservatives across the country are seriously considering a last minute air-drop of support into Illinois for Pat Hughes. The thinking goes that the last minute effort to help Scott Brown put him over the finish line and the same could be done in these last eleven days before the Illinois GOP primary.
If conservatives come out early next week in an organized fashion, throw a pile of targeted money into Illinois, and rapidly drive up Pat Hughes’ name identification, the polling in Illinois suggests Hughes will win.
He is not polling well against Kirk right now, but then he has significantly lower name identification. All the polling suggests Kirk’s support is very week and once people find out about Hughes, they break overwhelmingly for Hughes.
Erickson says how conservatives “answer the call” Monday and Tuesday of this week will determine whether Patrick Hughes can “surge” the Illinois Republican primary.
Congressman Kirk let it be known last fall that he felt he “deserved” the support of former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. It was interesting Kirk would seek her help, since back in 2008 when she was selected for VP, he told the Chicago Tribune, “I would have picked someone different.” Palin probably remembered.
In November, Kirk got caught by Chicago news media in an embarrassing “wiffle-waffle” over whether he was “going rogue” for Palin’s help in the race to appear more conservative or avoiding her to wear the “moderate” label proudly. He began to “yo-yo” on his “cap and trade” vote. When Palin visited Chicago to appear on the “Oprah” show, she did not endorse Kirk or mention his name.
Kirk is being endorsed by Palin’s former running mate, John McCain. Ms. Palin has recently taken a risk with her conservative supporters by announcing she will support McCain in his re-election bid in Arizona. While her loyalty to the pol who brought her to the national stage is laudable, linking herself to all of McCain’s chosen candidates is not likely or advisable.
Sarah Palin was not asked to campaign for Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts. This was a delicate show of deference to Democrats and independents in blue Massachusetts who were possibly having angst swinging to Brown.
There is no such baggage with conservative Republican Patrick Hughes in Illinois. If Sarah Palin blogs on her Facebook in favor of Hughes this week or if Ms. Palin would “rogue” in to Chicago or Joliet or Champaign to give Hughes a shout out, there will likely be a thundering herd of conservatives heading for Patrick Hughes. There is only “up” side for Palin if she makes a move for Hughes in Illinois. It would also reassure her conservative fans that she is a “maverick” able to draw the line between (misguided) loyalty to McCain and her own convictions.
Can Tea Party conservatives work the same “miracle” they just performed in Massachussetts?
Long-distance tea party phone banks took the pressure off Brown’s Massachusetts staff. Even in California, conservatives phone-banked for Scott Brown. Republican U.S. Senate candidates Chuck DeVore in California and Marco Rubio in Florida personally made calls to voters in Massachusetts for Brown last weekend. It can happen again for Hughes.
Patrick Hughes has Facebook and Twitter networking set up. Online donations from conservatives around the country, even $5 a person, can make a difference in Illinois, just like they did last week in Massachusetts. Scott Brown was eventually money-bombing a million dollars a day.
With the nationwide tea party, 9/12ers and the vast army of conservative social-networking bloggers behind him, Patrick Hughes can come from nowhere and re-write Illinois history on February 2.
Illinois Republicans have the chance to show who owns their party…the people or the big boy bureaucracy in Chicago.

This primary is as significant as the Massachusetts upset. We are engaged in a two front war against the DemoRats but more importantly, the RNC that has decided that turning Libtard light is the way to go. This primary is the first and it’s us the people who MUST set the rules. Do NOT donate to the RNC. Every dollar that does not go through Michael Steele’s Hands and puppet master Juan (as they call him in AZ) McCain is a dollar they can’t give to a RINO. Instead, donate directly to authentic conservatives. The key is to change the flow of the money in this race and the rest to follow.
